Missing comments

I’ve been investigating Peter’s missing comments problem, and have found the cause, but not yet the solution…
The comments to these blogs are passed through the Akismet spam filter before going to the human spam filter (Peter) before being posted. The Akismet plugin allows you to see the most recent ~150 spam posts, so you can rescue ham. At the current rate of spamming, this gives Peter just ~4 hours from posting time to rescue ham from Akismet.
I’m going to start looking for a Captcha plugin for WordPress – can anyone recommend one?

I haven’t tried it myself, but recaptcha seems popular and has worked well for me as a end user.

… and has a good purpose as well.

(1, 2) Many thanks Jim, Dorothea, Chris. I now get ca 1000 spams per day and as Jim say I can only rescue a few. (I managed o do that with Peter Suber’s post). Why both Peter Suber and Stevan Harnad got into the spam bin I don’t know. Th advantage of locating them there is – hopefully – that Akismet can learn.
On a related topic when I copy the permalinks to comments they sometimes get grunged by WordPress and they point somewhere else in the blogs. Copy/paste is a fragile mechanism at best.
